(11:00PM Wed Feb 8th 2023) As a storm system moves through the region tonight through Thursday, it will bring the opportunity for a low end severe t'storm risk, accumulating snowfall and high winds to portions of the state. With this update we have shifted the accumulating snowfall axis a bit further into Northwestern Illinois, given latest weather model guidance trends and real time observations. Little to no change was needed for the severe t'storm and high wind forecasts.
Timing & Location... •Severe T'Storm Risk: Tonight - Thursday morning, Feb 8-9th: Southern Illinois. •Snowfall: Early Thursday morning - Thursday evening, Feb 8th: Far Northwestern Illinois. •High Winds: Tonight - Thursday morning, Feb 8-9th: Southern Illinois. Impacts... •A level 1 severe t'storm risk is in place across portions of East-Central and Southern Illinois, tonight through Thursday morning. Isolated severe t'storms will be possible, posing a risk of damaging winds, hail and an isolated tornado. •Rain will mix with and change to snow across Northwestern Illinois, early Thursday morning through Thursday afternoon, with a dusting to 1" to 2-5" of snow expected. Locally higher snowfall amounts are possible in the main band. •A period of high winds is expected across much of the state, tonight through Thursday evening, with wind gusts of 35-50MPH expected. Locally higher wind gusts are possible across Eastern Illinois.
