A storm system moving through the region today into Thursday will bring a period of high winds to the state, this morning through Thursday morning. High winds aloft, characterized by a low level jet (850mb) of 65-85KT and 925mb winds of 50-65KT, will be in place. Adequate mixing is anticipated, at least up to 925mb, which will transport higher winds to the surface. During this period, wind gusts of 35-55MPH are expected across Central Illinois, and 45-65MPH across Northern Illinois. Wind gusts to these levels could cause some occurrences tree damage and power outages, in addition to being an issue for outdoor holiday decorations.
