A storm system moving through the region today into Thursday will bring a period of high winds to the state, this morning through Thursday morning. High winds aloft, characterized by a low level jet (850mb) of 65-85KT and 925mb winds of 50-65KT, will be in place. Adequate mixing is anticipated, at least up to 925mb, which will transport higher winds to the surface. During this period, wind gusts of 35-55MPH are expected across Central Illinois, and 45-65MPH across Northern Illinois. Wind gusts to these levels could cause some occurrences tree damage and power outages, in addition to being an issue for outdoor holiday decorations. Below is the high wind forecast for this event.
