Weekend Snow Event (Sun, Feb 9th) Update #2

2/8/2020

(12:00AM - 2/8/20) Yet another storm system is expected to move through the region this weekend, bringing the likelihood for some accumulating snow to portions of the state on Sunday.

Synopsis...
At this time, model guidance is still in some disagreement with the overall track, strength and location of exact snowfall amounts. However, there is widespread agreement on minor accumulating snow extending across Northern Illinois. Previous forecast looks on track, with little in the way of changes needed.

A storm system is expected to move through the region, and spread precipitation across the state from early Sunday morning through Sunday night. Across Northern Illinois dynamic and evaporative cooling will likely keep precipitation as mostly snow, during the early Sunday morning through Sunday night time-frame. While accumulating snow looks increasingly possible across Northern Illinois during this time...It should be noted that it appears surface temperatures will become increasingly marginal as this event unfolds...Thus, snow will likely accumulate less efficiently with time during the event, and snowfall totals will likely be kept in check. Even so, periods of moderate to even heavy snow will be possible at time, with accumulation likely.
Across Central Illinois, precipitation will start as snow or a mix, before transitioning to rain with time. Minor snow accumulation of a dusting to 1" is possible across portions of Central Illinois. For Southern Illinois, the entire event will be rain.

Final snowfall totals of 1-3" is likely across much of Northern Illinois, tapering to a dusting to 1" across Central Illinois.

Below is the snowfall forecast for this event.
