(7:00PM - 1/11/20) A winter storm continues to affect the state this evening, and will continue to into tonight.
A large area of snow has been moving across Northern, Central and Southwest Illinois this evening. This snow will continue into early tonight, slowly ending from west to east as time goes on. Across Eastern and Southwest Illinois, precipitation will transition from rain to a mix, before changing over to snow. Periods of moderate to heavy snow are likely across Northeast, Central and Southern Illinois, with low visibility and 1-2"/hr snowfall rates possible. Thundersnow will also be a possibility as well, and has already occurred in Central Illinois this evening. Additionally, lake enhancement to the snow has occurred and will continue to in Northeast Illinois, near Lake Michigan. In addition to the snow, high winds will continue to be likely across Northeast Illinois, with wind gusts of 25-45mph continuing into early tonight, before subsiding. The combination of elevated winds and moderate to heavy snow will likely lead to blowing and drifting snow.
